Idat 205: For Keepsakes!!!!

Yesterday we come up again with an added idea to our last idea of being a home movie editing company. I was wondering if there would really be a demand for the type of service we were offering the customers. So all week I was thinking of a service where people will send in as many personal photographs, business photographs, building photographs or even just favourite photographs as they like and we will enhance and create them into all the a professional looking book, scrapbook, a card, and even a calender. I think this is a nice idea to go with the home movie film idea as its the same kind of service. I discussed this with the rest of the group and all of them really liked the idea and thought it rounded up our website to be more demanding.

We did research on changing our name and Kat came up with “Keepsakes” which we all loved, so i now have to re-think my idea on how i am going to go about the logo. We are going to keep our jobs the same, but with a few additive. Also Vicky will be totally encharge of all the video editing now as i will be busy with the photo section of the website.

I am really looking forward to kicking this project off.

Here is a List of all the new and changes of jobs throughout the group.

  • Kat is Team Manager, Overall Designer and Journalist
  • Ollie is Programmer, Web Developer and Profile Image creator
  • Vicky is Video Editor, Sound Editor and Creator of dumby DVD
  • Myself will be Logo Designer, Photography producer and Creator of dumby photo book, calender and card

Just before we left I said that on our profile page I really do not want a massive photo of my face splashed across the screen so Ollie came up with the idea of vectoring our faces out and having barley any feature on our faces. This will work well as we all have different hair styles and Ollie has glasses. This is an example of what Ollie will try an achieve. The famous Blur front cover:

Idat 205: Popping away

Right leaving festivals and farmers behind us we have come up with a totally different service for our website company.

Going from creating a music festival or even being promoters of festivals, we are now a home movie video editing company, called “Popcorn”.  This name came from a number of ideas of other names we made up, such as “films 4u”.  I got Popcorn from the idea of people sitting at home eating a big bowl of popcorn whilst watching a DVD on their home TV.

The idea of the service is that, people will send in their own pre filmed clips that they have filmed whilst for example:

  • Being on hoilday
  • Attending a wedding day
  • Attending a christening
  • Attending a  birthday party
  • Being on a day trip
  • Attending a music gig

The customer will come to us so we create a special DVD  of very high quailty edited film clips that they send us, for them.  We are going to let the customer have as much input into the finally movie as they like,  we will use this fact for being top of the market for this kind of service and make us more in demand.  We will also have different options of title pages for the DVD that the customer can choose from, as well as different options layout outs for the front cover of the DVD.

We have assigned each of us different jobs for this project, which suit everybodys skills and abilities.  The job list is as followed:

  • Kat is Team Manager and Overall Designer
  • Ollie is the Programmer and Web Developer
  • Vicky is Film Editor and Creater of a dumby DVD
  • Myself I am  also a Film Editor, Sound Editor and Logo Creator.

Hugo is pleased with both our name and and idea for our company, so now the research begins on simular companys and their websites.

Idat 205: The first ideas

Right we have been brainstorming over the idea for Hugo’s website, and we are thinking about creating a festival, such as Reading or Download and we are going to create a website for it to promote it and to get people to buy tickets to attend the festival.  We thought we could have a flash clip of the stages and what they look like, and with the profile pages we were thinking that each person could have a stage each and promote that as well as it being a profile page for the person themselves.

But even though us three girls our really excited about this idea, i feel that Ollies heart isn’t in it, and i personally would prefer if we base our project on something everybody was enthusiastic about.

So first we got to see what Hugo think but, I can see it being back to the drawing board.

Idat 205: Introduction

We have had our introduction with Hugo, I must say I am looking forward to this module, and  the acting part! As we are pretending to be a company, we can really put our imagination to this project.  I have always said how I want to actually learn skills on how to make a website look eye catching and well persented, and I this module is definitely going to help me gain these skills.

It will be the famous four working together on this project:   Kat

Vicky

Ollie

And myself

We are a very strong team with loads of ideas between us and I am very confident that will produce a very excellent high quality website, which will persuade any customer to use our service!

Now to this of what our product or service can be!

Idat 205: The Load Down

[Creative Industries| IDAT205 | MLA/MPT| CREDITS: 20 | 70% Coursework 30% Exam]

[Module Descriptor]

This module explores the dynamic changes that are sweeping through traditional media and communications industries, brought about by the impact of new technologies such as (digital interactive) terrestrial, cable, and satellite TV, the internet, tele-communications and computer networks. It explores, through group production projects, the practical issues underpinning the management of distributed organisations.

Brief] AUTUMN TERM: GROUP MARKETING PROJECT (35%)

The brief will be delivered in detail during the Week 2 lecture on Monday 1 October.

Each group will present itself via a live website as an independent media company or digital arts agency/organisation. Whatever form it takes, each group must ‘sell’ its products or services by demonstrating its professionalism and excellence through superior web content and effective marketing, such that it will immediately attract and impress any potential client or visitor to the site. The information presented must be based as far as possible upon actuality, so that you are really demonstrating the combined skills of the members of your group.

You should research as many existing sites as possible, in order to find inspiration and guidance for your own site. You will be expected to reference these sources and any other books/journals/materials and incorporate them in a webography to accompany your site, with annotations explaining why you were drawn to these sites.

You should include the following elements on your website:

Original idea for company/agency/organisation
Description of same (mission statement)
Products/services offered
Profiles of individual members
Selection of best work (based on course projects) with annotation
Compelling images/sound/text
Content and form appropriate to such a company/agency/organisation

SPRING TERM: GROUP MULTIMEDIA PROJECT (35%)

This will involve the group development in real time of a project (to be confirmed) for a local charity organisation based in the South West. Projects in recent years were for the Eden Project, Rame Conservation Trust and Surfers Against Sewage. The project brief will be delivered in the first two weeks of the spring term.

SUMMER TERM: EXAMINATION (30%)

The individual examination is based on the lectures (including guest lectures from representatives of the media industry) covering key phases and changes in the media industry.
